11 May 2003 - Sevenoaks Swimming Centre
Thank you to all those attended last night's meeting: Nick Hirst; Simon
Booth; Simon Hunter; Marc Southon; Gill Sanders; Neil McInerney; Simon
Wintle; Paul Bonner-Williams; Jay, Mark and me.
We agreed that we would canvass opinion on the following topics:
1. Swim coaching
2. National Relays
3. Casual clothing
4. Suggestions
5. Attracting new members
Other topics
Open water swimming
I would be grateful if you could let me have your views (if any) on the
following:
1. Swim coaching
Would you like some technique coaching on a regular basis?
If so, how often? (weekly; twice a month; once a month)
How much would you be prepared to pay for this? (less than £5 per session;
£5 - £10 per session; more) (the precise cost will depend on how many people
are interested and we would anticipate that members will have to sign up for
say a quarter in advance)
Are you happy with the swim sets as they are? (Yes; No - if no, what would
you like to see more of/less of?)
2. National Relays
The National Relays are a club event which takes place in Nottingham on the
first weekend in August. The relays are on the Saturday; and there is a
sprint race on the Sunday (for those with any legs left). The distances
for
the relays are 500m(o) - 20km - 5km. The format is that each person swims
(one at a time); then each person bikes; then runs - so you get a break
between each discipline!
The team can be all male; all female or mixed (2 of each)
The event is a really fun day out; but it does mean you have to go up Fri pm
or very early Sat. Its a good spectator event as there is stadium seating
and the race is on closed roads.
If any of you are interested please let Mark or me know by the end of May.
3. Polo shirts
Would you like a club polo shirt? (cost is approx £12)
4. Suggestions
If anyone has any suggestions on ways to improve the club/sessions please
tell us!
5. Attracting new members
How can we do this?
Suggestions so far have been:
Canvass local health clubs (egg give a talk at Nizels)
Increased local press coverage
Open water swimming
We hope to begin open water swimming at Haysden Lake on Monday evenings very
shortly. We are just finalising the details of the licence with Tonbridge
and Malling council. We will let you know when the sessions will start
very
shortly.
